The year was 1951, the Korean War (1950 – 1953) was in full swing and both sides were at each throat trying to gain an upper hand in the conflict but the bigger conflict was developing on the home front of the U.S. Leading the American and U.N. forces was the American World War II Hero General Douglas MacArthur (1880 – 1964) but this would be a short-lived command due to his desire to wage a total war and his blatant disregard for the Presidential power. He was a man that would become a military genius and brilliant commander. MacArthur would be raised his life as a man of the military since his family was deep in the tradition of serving the U.S. He would go on to attend West Point and graduate at the top of his class in 1903. In 1914 he was nominated for a Medal of Honor for his actions in the U.S. occupation of Veracruz. During World War One he would again be nominated for the Medal of Honor and would rise through the ranks of the military to become a General. This meant that MacArthur had limited number of troops and supplies in theater to react to the North Korean invasion. MacArthur was against these cuts and reductions but was overruled by President Truman. This is where MacArthur and Truman start to butt heads over how the military should be running and how theater operations should be fought. MacArthur went as far as to compare Truman and Roosevelt saying that Roosevelt had “extraordinary self-control” while Truman had a very “violent temper and ungovernable rage.” This would define their relationship throughout the next few years of the war
