Frederick Douglass was born sometime in 1818, and was born into slavery. He later escaped slavery at the age of 20 and became a person who wrote and sometimes gave small speeches. However, the speech that he gave at a well known hall was much different. Douglass began by talking about his life story and what went on. He soon started to contradict himself by saying that his appearance at the hall would much misrepresent him, and soon after saying that, he announces that he has so far been doing well with putting together his thoughts though imperfect.

The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution of the United States and it intentionally gave the central government very little power. The colonists had just escaped life under the British monarchy where they had no representation and no way to legally protest the way they were being treated. When he was born, he was taken into slavery, and worked hard day in and day out since he was a child. But, he ran away and lived a free life. Slavery was one of the many things Americans did wrong back in those times, and it is still going on today. There are many injustices in slavery and motivations that had made people want to join the abolitionist cause back then, but there is also some sensible age limit to children who will learn about Frederick Douglass.

In the narrative, Douglass gives a picture about the humiliation, brutality, and pain that slaves go through. We can evidently see that Douglass does not want to describe only his life, but he uses his personal experiences and life story as a tool to rise against slavery. He uses his personal life story to argue against common myths that were used to justify the act of slavery. Douglass invalidated common justification for slavery like religion, economic argument and color with his life story through his experiences torture, separation, and illiteracy, and he urged for the end of slavery.

Another way that Douglass’s uses his Narrative to share his position is by telling their audience how unfairly Frederick and many other slaves were treated because because in the Document “‘ Pro Slavery Arguments South’’ on paragraph 6 it says,”Southern slaveholders pro-slavery arguments defended the interest of the plantation owners against attempts by abolitionists, lower classes, and non-whites to institute a more equal social structure.”
