Theodor Seuss Geisel aka Dr. Seuss was born on March 2, 1940, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His parents were Theodor Robert Geisel, a successful brew master, and Henrietta Seuss Geisel. He had two sisters, Marnie, two years older, and Henrietta 3 ½ years younger. Henrietta died at the age of five due to pneumonia. Dr. Seuss attended Dartmouth College, where he became the editor in chief of its humor magazine, Jack-O-Lantern.
The circumstances in which a child is raised can affect their feelings towards literature. If parents are supportive of a child’s education, they will grow up with more happiness towards learning and reading. For example, Jeannette Walls, in her memoir, The Glass Castle, tells how though she was raised in poverty, her parents supported reading. In the same way, Eudora Welty, in her memoir, One Writer’s Beginnings, explains how she was raised in a loving home by parents who completely supported reading. Whereas Walls was raised in poverty, Welty was raised with money.
Have you ever wondered about the real meaning behind Dr.Seuss’s books? Believe it or not, Dr.Seuss’s books aren’t just a variety of rhymes and made up words. While I never realized the real meaning, my favorite Dr.Seuss book of all time is The Lorax. The books written by Dr.Seuss that I will explain are Yertle the Turtle, The Lorax, and And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street. Yertle the Turtle is one story showing that Dr.Seuss is more than nonsense words and rhyming.
Reading has declined due to unimportant tasks. People are becoming lazier and are just outright uninterested in broadening their minds. Many people believe technology has a part to play in this. One author writes “the sheer busyness of our technologically immersed lives tends to prevent the kind of sustained attention that an engaging book demands” (Hallwas par. 9). This growth of unentertained reading can be seen at a young age when a young man exclaimed “I do like reading, but it’s not at the top of things I like to do” (“Decline in Reading” par. 1).
Reading is an important aspect of a child’s life and it’s crucial to a student’s education and most students and parents neglect to see that reading will make a huge impact during their studies as a student. Rodriguez grew up in a family where reading was never done for fun, rather only when necessary. When he initiated school, he felt that reading was a chore, he also felt lonely and bored
To become a reader on the other hand involves more complicated processes. First, one must determine what type of non-reader one is: a lazy literate person, or motivated illiterate person. If one is the illiterate person who wants to read but doesn’t know how, congratulations on being brave and embarking on the journey of a reader. To begin your journey, start at the beginning, with the help of a teacher, tutor, or program, study and learn the alphabet. After this the hard part is over.

I was best friends with Elizabeth Lakoski. After Pokemon, my interest switched to Volcanes. I would always read books about them, and would watch them erupt on Youtube. Everyone knows that reading is important, but have you ever asked yourself why is that so? Reading is one of the most beneficial and practical activities that a human being can do.
