Poet, writer, and author of famous children’s books are the three elements that describe Dr. Seuss. Many people know Dr. Seuss as an author who made many children’s books. As a well known children’s book author, Theodor Geisel inspired young children to be more creative. He left a lasting legacy of it’s ok to think outside the box.
Theodor Geisel completed a lot during his lifetime but what happened when he wasn’t alive? Before Geisel was born, his grandfather decided to move to the U.S. In 1840 Geisel’s grandfather, also named Theodor, was born. Geisel’s grandfather Immigrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1867 when he was 27. Theodor was born on March 2, 1904. However, it was when Theodor became Dr. Seuss that he made a larger impact. In addition, his work still impacts us today.
He left a lasting legacy after his death and young kids still read his stories to this day. Dr. Seuss died on September 24, 1991 in La Jolla, California at age 87. After his death, he received a Hollywood star on the Walk of Fame in 2004. He even got a memorial dedicated to him after his death designed by his own stepdaughter. Seuss made most of his contributions during his lifetime, he is still contributing even to this day. Dr. Seuss may have died in 1991, but his team still makes movies. There is even a revamped Grinch movie coming out in 2018. There have been many redesigned versions of his books and kids still read them and get inspired everyday. Also, people get inspired by his quotes. For example, from the book Oh the Places You'll Go, the quote states, “You have brains in your head and feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose,” (Szulman, web) which means that you can change your path to success, is often used to inspire graduates.
