McDonald explains that Dracula is a figure “thrown back upon primitive, undisciplined appetites”(Radin, Primative Man 337), “Dracula shows the same characteristics in his appetite for blood”(138). Just like a child in front of dessert, but told not to eat it. There is only so much restraint that child can have before it indulges in the dessert. The same circumstances are with Dracula except for blood symbolizes his survival and euphoria “The blood is life!”
Everybody knows the classic tale of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It is most famous for its introduction of the character of Count Dracula into both deep-rooted and contemporary literature and media. One critic claimed,” Bram Stoker set the ground rules for what a vampire should be.” It follows the story of Jonathan Harker, an English solicitor who visits Count Dracula in his castle in Transylvania – soon realising that he is being kept as a prisoner. Dracula forms a liking to the character of Lucy which ultimately leads to her death.
Throughout the story of Dracula the main character Jonathan changed quite a bit. In the beginning of the story he was very open minded and came to Dracula’s castle without any discouragement. He progressively got more stressed out and changed dramatically. I’m not sure if the author was trying to make it believable that Jonathan was so oblivious to what was going on around him. I find it extremely hard to believe that a character could be that open minded and not change emotionally when being trapped in a castle for about a month.

It is weird in Transylvanian, and after one night Jonathon has bite marks on his neck. From the looks of things Dracula is a vampire and has begun to like Jonathon’s wife.
Hanker describes Dracula as strong, “saying he moved impulsively forward, and holding out his hand grasped mine with a strength which made me wince.” (Stoker ) So not only is Dracula strong, he made Hanker wince. In the novel Dracula, author Bram Stoker creates a peculiar situation that pushes the main characters to decipher the supernatural from reality. Originally thought of as a myth, Dracula quickly becomes something more than the supernatural.
