Drafting in the USA has been a huge part of war efforts since the initiation of it in the 1940’s, and it has hugely affected many people ever since. The method used to draft soldiers was just a starting idea by this point, but seemed to be a solid solution to find men for the war. When you go to look at drafts in the United States from 1940’s to now you can see what a great idea it was and can be for the country. How the draft worked in the 1940’s was fairly simple at first, but when the US joined WWII it changed drastically. Originally when the draft was initiated by the government, “all men between the ages of 21 and 45”(National), were expected to register. Once a man had registered they were required to serve at least one year in the military. But because of the US joining WWII, men were expected, if picked, to serve until the war ended. When picking men for the draft they were chosen in groups at lottery or random. For example they would choose groups like this; year 1932, birthdays September-November. This changed the lives of men in the1940’s drastically. Not only were they forced to draft under pressure of denaturalization, but they rest uneasy knowing they might get chosen to fight.
