The book Marshfield of Dreams: When I was a Kid, by Ralph Fletcher is a memoir that uses lots of sensory details, imagery, similes, and other figurative language. Along with these types of figurative language, he also uses three elements; plot, setting, and characters. For example, the plot of the book is a story of Ralph’s childhood, and short stories of scenarios that occurred in his childhood. The setting of the memoir consists of various places such as; school, his home, etc. Along with the plot, and the setting, there are also characters mentioned in the story.
" Harvey 's dream" by Stephen King is the story about a man that dreams about a horrible accident; a dream that might end up being a reality. The meaning of the story is to never underestimate a dream, because dreams might end up becoming a reality. The point that the author tries to make to the reader is to evaluate the elements of one 's dreams, and determine what our subconscience put there, and what is simply an element of our imagination. The theme of the story is mystery; inside the mystery we can find elements of sadness, unhappiness, and fear. There are two main characters in which one is Harvey, the husband who is telling the dream, and the other is Janet, the wife, who is listening to the dream.
In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie have a dream. Their dream is to have a place of their own. My dream is like that in a way. I am looking at the bigger picture. My dream includes having a house and a great job.

In Susan Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun, the themes identified are dreams and faith that each character signifies throughout their struggles in their daily lives. Lauren is characterized as a serious and intelligent girl, yet in this moment, seeing the water outside her house, she becomes a new person. Disregarding the consequences and disobeying her stepmother, Lauren stands outside until she is soaked in dirty rain water. These actions are not of someone who is trying their best to be seen as an adult and to survive in a dangerous world, they are actions of a teenager who wants to enjoy her life. A similar event occurs later in the novel when Lauren, Harry, and Zahra are at a beach. They are completely surrounded by potentially dangerous strangers in unknown territory, but this is the first time any of them had seen the ocean, so again Lauren disregards the consequences of her actions and actually lives her life.
What does it mean to dream? Well, I believe dreams will always remain a mystery of phenomenons that science will never be able to explain. However, we can interpret our dreams in many different aspects. Philosophers, such as Alan Watts, interpret dreams in an interesting way, such as it being an adventure (The Dream of Life). From this, I’d like to think of dreams as adventures for our minds; we’re subconsciously wandering to a new adventure every time we decide to rest our eyes.
I Dreamed a Dream is a soliloquy piece, sung by Fantine during act one of Les Misérables (1980). Fantine has just been fired from her factory job after it is discovered that she has an illegitimate child and takes to selling herself on the streets to pay for medicine for her daughter. It is here that ‘I Dreamed a Dream,’ is sung as a way of progressing the story and providing a realisation by the character of her unfortunate situation in life with the song being composed as a way of expressing the feelings of Fantine as she wonders where her life went so wrong as to descend to her present predicament. Throughout the song an anguished, during and impoverished Fantine reminisces on happier days and descends back to the harsh reality that is her hopeless life. I Dreamed a Dream is set in common time (4/4) with a steady set tempo throughout the piece, de despite significant changes in dynamic, texture, modulation and emotion.
