In the book Of Mice and Men written by John Steinback the theme of dreams and goals is pointed out many times. The book set place during the Great Depression times were very tough for everyone, everywhere. Where the book takes place is in Salines, California. In the early great depression, Migrant Workers were doing anything for sum quick profit. Lennie and George, the main protagonists, found their jobs in a lonely camp in the middle of nowhere, but had great aspirations and hopes for their future. Lennie (Lennie Smalls) is a big huge man that7 is used around the farm for heavy labor, he also has some disabilities. Lennie wants to tend rabbits later in his life, with his friend George on their own farm. In the passage george says, “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world.” To begin with, Lennie and George have nothing at the moment, so when they get the opportunity they will feel like the luckiest in the world. This also shows that they can only look forward in their life, because their life is worthless right then. In the book Lennies say,” They'd nibble an’ they’d nibble,’ said Lennie,’the way they do ive seen 'em.” (Steinbach 56) Lennie is so excited about tending the rabbits, he sounds so hopeful to eventually be the tender.
