Both Barack Obama and Derek Jeter have written stories about their life. Jeter wrote a motivational autobiography about reaching his dreams and goals in, “Life You Imagine”. Obama wrote a memoir about a certain time in his life in, “Dreams From My Father”. In both “Life You Imagine” and “Dreams From My Father”, the authors use specific strategies to help convey their themes of dreams and challenges one faces to reach their goals. The author of “Life You Imagine” uses colloquial language to relate to the readers. In the text it stated, “We’re not just talking about baseball here- We’re talking about dreams, no matter what they are.” This shows that Jeter’s use of colloquial language helped to convey the theme by having Jeter relate to the reader using informal language.
