Raising the dropout age, is it the right thing to do? Well the school bells are ringing and less and less students of the age 16+ are going through the open doors. More and more states are beginning to contemplate whether to raise the dropout age from 16 to 18. A lot of research has been done in order to see if the law should be passed or flushed down the toilet labeled ‘Not A Law’. Even though raising the age does not always help, the dropout age should be raised, because students who do not finish high school struggle in life, and more and more work areas are requiring a high school diploma, if not more education is required, also at the young age of 16 there are not many things you can do seeing as you are not yet a legal adult for example the amount of rights given, and the amount of people who will hire you. According to an article named Future Shock by Jason Amos, by 2020 65% of jobs will require a postsecondary Education, and only 36% of jobs will be open to people with a high school diploma. Studies show ,as seen above, that only 36% of jobs will accept people with a only a high school diploma. This means that most jobs will require a postsecondary education which means a college degree. So what about those who don’t finish high school? There will be almost no job that will accept people without a high school diploma, and the ones that do will most likely pay minimum wage. In this world money is needed in order to survive and raise a family. Raising the dropout age will help make sure that the future people of America have a proper chance to get the job that they want to get, so they live a long happy life.
