Another impact on others is that embarrassment that is caused for family and friends by using drug to cheat and being caught out as they may stuck up for the athlete and proving that they weren’t cheating but then the athlete was found to be positive for using drugs to enhance their performance then this would cause for embarrassment to all those whom tried to stick up for the athlete. Or for example for Lance Armstrong whom is not in the Olympics as he is a road cyclist who has a wife as well as kids. The people of New Zealand would have felt ashamed that she was representing our country. It also gives other countries a chance to think badly of New Zealand and even other New Zealand athletes as they may be suspicious that because one athlete has be tested positive that there is a chance others are doing it as well. As well as looking bad on the country and embarrassing us by her choice of drug enhancing it stops athletes who are determined to represent our country well and means that they miss out on the chance to represent our country without drug use. After watching the video interview with New Zealand cyclist Alison Shanks we learn the extensive procedures she has to go through. She described the testing as a complex procedure as it contained of many stages. As the drug testers would just turn up to her house unexpectedly and if she wasn’t home they would wait their until she got home this assured that the athletes weren’t able to cover their tracks and prepare for testing. New Zealand is known to have one of the best drug testing procedures in the world this means that it gives New Zealand athletes less of an incentive to take drugs as they are at a high risk of getting caught.
