Drug testing in the workplace is an extremely controversial topic. Advocates of drug testing push the cost that drugs will cause to the company. Drugs that alter employee behavior can cause accidents, injuries, and even theft. The greatest cost that drugs within the workplace can cause is immeasurable cost-lives. If an employee of Delta Airlines was on pain medicine not prescribed to him/her, he/she could very easily cause an accident in the air or on the land. The proponents of drug testing are more concerned about the public’s safety over employee’s privacy. The challengers of drug testing in the work place emphasize the inaccuracy of the test. Many medications and foods can give a false test reading which can often lead to the employee’s termination or loss in pay.
