Drugs and alcohol have the ability to completely take over a person’s life. Trying to quite these addictions can be extremely difficult and need the help of professionals. Women who are considered “addicts” and become pregnant, have a really hard time quitting these habits even if it has a chance at harming the baby. Confirming such findings would catch the interest of obstetrician doctors, and mothers who are wanting to know what is best for their baby during their pregnancy. An obstetrician doctor is someone who aids a pregnant women throughout her pregnancy, including the recovery. This information is very beneficial for them to have knowledge on so they are able to give their patients the care they need. Majority of new mothers educate themselves on what it takes to have a healthy pregnancy and baby so this information would be very beneficial to them. My initial fascination with this started my freshman year of high school when I enrolled in a Child Development course. In this course we studied the fetus and new born babies. The next semester I enrolled in Advanced Child Development where I officially learned about the effects of drugs and alcohol on a fetus and new born babies. I was educated on the simplicity of the concept, but not on what actually occurs in the fetus and how it effects their lives outside of the womb.
