Dryden Aphorism Essay
The relationship between the government and the governed is a critical component of
any political system. The Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights were
foundational documents in the United States that laid out the principles of this
relationship. These documents established the idea that governments are created to
serve the people and that they derive their authority from the consent of the governed.
However, the reality of this relationship today is far different from what was intended by

government exists to serve the people and that its authority is derived from their
consent. This relationship was intended to be a reciprocal one, with the government

law. However, the reality of this relationship today is far different from what was
intended. Many Americans feel disenfranchised by the political process, believing that
their voices are not heard or that their votes do not matter. This sense of disconnection
has led to a decline in voter turnout and increased cynicism toward the government. In
addition, many people feel that their rights are being infringed upon by the government,
