¨The Lottery¨ Writing Prompts In the short story ¨The Lottery¨ by Shirley Jackson, the author shows the theme of a duality of human nature. In the story Ms Delacroix, Mrs Hutchinson's friend, acts friendly for most of the story, but towards the end, she is the one leading the charge to kill her friend. This is the biggest example of duality of human nature, it very clear switch in personalities. Her own friend is the first to throw a big, heavy rock at Jessie(Mrs Hutchinsons). This is one of the handful of examples found in the short story. Another example is Mrs Hutchinsonś own children beamed and laughed when they realized that they weren't picked.
