Evaluation of Duke Ellington and his achievemnt form major Duke was "beyond category", he struggled to mve beyond any form of categorization that could kill his visison and dreams. From early in his career and when he stepped into the music scene, he desired to respected and truly he received that even after his death. Duke was respected for his capability to write in a range of styles with his self-taught harmony. For eample, in addition to the jazz style, he composed a movie score, Anatomy of a Murder, a ballet, "The River", Broadway musical , "Beggars Holiday". The pieces were uniques for their touch of jazz, as his way of keeping his culture through music. Duke went through years of band leadershpi, which gave him enormous knowledeg in music organization. He also engaged in liturgy writing, In the Beginning God, composed for soloist and orchestra chorus. Duke deserved and still deserves the respect, he was the first black to gain such distinction in his time and receive honorary mention for his success in the music industry. In 176, Duke was awarded Honorary Doctorates from Yale and Harvard and was eventually awarded from the Columbus University honorary degree, the sole jazz musician to have receive it.
