“Duke Fuqua MBA is the missing piece in the jigsaw of my life,” is my response to my family, friends, and colleagues’ curiosity vis-à-vis my keenness to become a Blue Devil. ‘Best’ the word has a magic ring to it, is my elixir; has been so, since I can remember. The thought of being the best, and being among the best, has always motivated me. Growing up in a multicultural environment, among multi-linguistic groups, where discipline, camaraderie and social welfare programs were an integral part of the community, I have been driven by the mottos ‘service before self’ and ‘pay-it-forward’. Additionally, at Duke, the world would be my campus where I will learn different perspectives, share experiences; understand diverse cultures, in interactions with my global cohorts. Further, the vast Duke alumni network will be my support for life Also, Duke draws me for its comprehensive approach to business. In my career so far, I have achieved seemingly impossible targets, increased revenue, entered new markets, guided by instinct. A Duke education will fill gaps in my knowledge, give me a skill set; enable me to develop a tool kit. Consequently, I will have a route map to greater professional success. Other reasons in favor of Duke that I give to my well wishers are that it sends out thought leaders in the world, who reinvent; redefine business ethics, rules and styles, which the world adopts; I want to be counted among them. Also, that its graduates are lion-hearted, keep community interests uppermost, cover each others’ backs; are trusted, all of which I identify with. I never ran out of new reasons, which at times surprised me. COLE’s Leadership and Ethics concentration was another in the long list; building leadership skills that will help me assume greater responsibilities and leadership roles, as I develop a broader, global business outlook. DSS, FCCP and ‘Week-in-Cities Trip’ all were strong grounds to join Duke, as they promised business insights from the top executives in the business world, ‘real-life consulting projects’ and networking opportunities, respectively. GATE would allow me to immerse in a foreign culture, learn different viewpoints and business drivers of a region. ‘Mini Weeks’ appealed to me; was one major reason I sited in Duke’s favor, as it will give me ‘Wednesday’ as ‘my’ time. Moreover, Fuqua Case Bowl in my first year, Elite 8 Case Competition, Deloitte National Case Competition, besides, attending various conferences and symposia, would facilitate my consolidating my learning in a competitive, yet nurturing atmosphere; imbibing as I interact with luminaries of the business world.
