Texas born, Dwight D. Eisenhower has made many great impacts on American history. From serving in World War Two and being a well respected commander, to the President of the United States, Eisenhower was known as being a leader throughout many years of his life. Even though he grew up in a very religious home, it did not stop him from following his dreams of becoming a military officer. Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison Texas, but only one year later, he moved to Abilene, Kansas. He was the third child out of seven brothers and his parents were David and Ida Eisenhower. However, he somehow managed to get into the, “Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas”(1). He graduated first in his class and worked as a military aide to General John J. Pershing. While working under General Pershing, he was stationed in the Phillipenes from 1935 to 1939. Very soon after the outbreak of World War Two in Europe, Eisenhower returned home. Then in 1941, he was promoted to brigadier general and recieved his first general’s star. He later was called into Wahington D.C. after the Pearl Harbor attack, as a planning officer. It was in,” 1952 Eisenhower retired from active service and returned to Abilene to announce his candidacy for the Republican party nominaton”(“Dwight D.”). He was later elected as the United States 34th President after winning the election by a landslide. While beginning his term, he picked up Truman’s Fair Deal and F. Roosevelt’s New Deal Program. He was also able to ease the tension of the Cold War by military negotiation, which was one of the main focuses within the administration. Then in 1953, he tried to create some sort of peace at the South Korean boarder. Later that year he gave his very famous Atoms For Peace speech. It was explaining how even though Russia and the United States both created atomic bombs, they should use the atomic energy in helpful ways(1), not only in harmful ways that may cause another war to break
