Dynamic Character In The Pillars Of The Earth

In the book I'm reading, The Pillars Of The Earth, most characters are dynamic. For example, the protagonist in the beginning of the story is Tom Builder who is a dynamic character that is usually the one to resolve central conflicts, in result, he is a changed person that started off as a beggar but has transitioned into a mason and first builder of a cathedral. However, the antagonist in the story is William Hamleigh who is a static character because his intentions to pursue Aliena and make her life miserable has never changed. As well as to have revenge on Philip who was appointed prior of Kingsbridge. William’s personality does not transform overtime and remains the person against all that is good in the story. A third central character is Ellen’s son, Jack. He very much resembles his mother’s instincts but acts more upon them. Jack is intelligent than other characters, determined to accomplish any obstacle, and talented in his work as a mason “But once he had got to know the lump of rock in front of him he could transform it. The more difficult the task, the more fascinated he was” (528). Jack is a skillful character who also is intriguing and differs from other characters such as Tom's biological children who are around the same age as him. Like his mother, Jack seems a bit odd with little descriptions that distinguish him, such as, his carrot colored hair. A last central character is Aliena, who later on becomes Jack’s lover. Aliena is described as independent, scholarly, and romantic “...she was a little intrigued by his astonishing imagination...and it made Aliena realize that she was starved of intelligent conversation” (547). Aliena comes from a high class family, which were educated, but was able to find herself in love with an outlaw, low class people who were exiled.
