I attend Midlands Technical College and have been for a full semester. So far, I have taken the easiest as well as the hardest classes I will be taking this year. One of my classes was ENG 100-A63. I was placed in ENG 100 because my test scores were not high enough for the writing portion of my exam. I was not taught how to write a proper paper before attending MTC. As a writer, I write about topics that are meaningful to me. I have grown as a student and as a writer following the first day of class. The first day of ENG 100 I was assigned to write a diagnostic essay that informed Professor Wyeth of our writing skills along with what the class could improve on. I worded my sentences better and did not have as many run-on sentences as I did before. I still struggled on smoothly transitioning from paragraph to paragraph. I did not know what I was supposed to be doing to transition from one section to the next properly. One change I noticed was my vocabulary was increasing. Rather than using "baby phrases," I used enhanced words. I have noticed that with each essay I write, the stronger of a writer I become. I have learned techniques on how to transition from paragraph to paragraph, structure my sentences better, and applied appropriate vocabulary. I have changed a few elements in my final essays. When writing an article, I start by considering my topic. I note everything I know about the topic off- hand. Then, I write my introductory paragraph stating how I was introduced to the subject. I write several articles using online resources when appropriate, stating my thoughts and feelings, and summarizing them in a conclusion paragraph. I reread the rough-draft and add in relevant details and take away unnecessary details. As I read, I make sure grammar and spelling are correct. I keep reading my essay and revising this until I feel it has reached its full
