979 Words4 Pages

When beginning ENG 1510, I was not excited. I have never been a fan of writing, and honestly, I approached the class with a sense of dread. In fact, in my open letter, I expressed my frustration, stating, “Writing has always been a chore for me. I find myself staring at a blank piece of paper for hours; lost and confused” (Steele 1). Future Career: Looking ahead to my future career, I recently switched my major to management and strategic leadership at the College of Business. With that being said, I will not have to write essays like the ones we've done in class. However, effective communication is still crucial for me. As I look ahead to my future, I see myself leading people. When it comes to leading people in the right direction, I see how important it is to understand two key ideas: "genre" and "discourse community." Think of "genre" as the different types of communication we use in business. It could be writing reports, giving presentations, or planning strategies. Each one serves a different purpose and helps us get things done. For example, knowing how to write a good strategic plan is essential for setting clear goals and guiding people forward. If I want to be an effective leader, I must make sure that I and the people around me have solid communication skills. Communication amongst your team is the key to
