Early Childhood Education Philosophy

My philosophy is that young children between the ages of two to eight years need a solid foundation which will last them a lifetime. I believe that at this vital period in their lives, children have a natural love for learning. Therefore, this is the best time to nurture that love by catering to their needs. All children have needs which must be met in order for learning to occur. Children need to be able to socialize, experiment and discover. They need to be active participants in the construction of their own knowledge. Children need to be taught self-regulation, how to deal with their emotions, develop an understanding of God’s love, and the value of others.
As an educator it is my job to meet the needs of the children by providing a child center environment with the teacher as a guide. It should be a safe, attractive, stable and systematic environment with a welcoming atmosphere that students can feel comfortable to explore and experiment. It should cater to and be inclusive to all children. Children should have access to appropriate learning areas, so they can be stimulated in cooperative and self-taught activities. …show more content…

It is for this reason, curriculum development, activities and lessons should be cater around the student interests, abilities, individual and cultural development. By doing this, the educator fosters intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn by catering to each child’s development while engaging them in holistic activities which develop the child in all domains.
