1. Why did you choose to attend Central Lakes College? I chose Central Lakes College for many reasons. First, Central Lakes College is affordable compared to other universities. Central Lakes College costs about $8000 dollars annually, compared to other universities (major and private) which can range from $23,000-$50,000.
College is great but education systems shouldn't wait until college to finish teaching the students what they need to be literate Americans within society. Murray creates a good argument for teaching the core essentials in K-12 curriculum. A high school diploma should set a person up to be a productive person in society nothing more, nothing less. College should be a choice but not something that everyone has to obtain to be successful. Granted different people define success
“College in America” Caroline Bird thinks that a college education may not be the best choice for all high school students because college education does not bring about social equality, it does not benefit them financially, and it is not guaranteed that college will lead them to an elite profession. First of all, high school students are expected to bring about social equality through four rigorous years in college. However, college is an expensive way to categorize the highs and lows in society. It is pressuring to younger students to pursue a higher education that only a few could achieve, and is also difficult for them to established an identity in society. Second, a college education does not benefit the youth financially because it is
Recently, many have begun to attack and degrade higher education in the United States. In the book How College Works, authors Daniel Chambliss and Christopher Takacs claim, “As state support has eroded, and as more students attend college in an increasingly desperate attempt to find viable jobs, the price to students of attending an institution of higher education has gone up, especially at more selective institutions” (172). So is college even worth it? Caroline Bird’s excerpt from her book Case Against College “Where College Fails Us” is an adequately written article that agrees with those who question whether college is a good investment. Bird argues that although some students would benefit from college and succeed, many fall short, wasting
A strong foundation in early education is crucial, but without continued support, that potential can remain unrealized. Investing in higher education was equally important to Johnson's vision. Johnson stated, “For the college years we will provide scholarships to high school students of the greatest promise and the greatest need and we will guarantee low-interest loans to students continuing their college studies” (source 1). His quotes advocating for scholarships and low-interest loans demonstrate a commitment to nurturing talent throughout a student's academic journey. A well-educated population, Johnson believed, was the basis of a strong and just
The general argument made by author Charles Murray in his article, “Are too many people go to college,” is that the college is not necessary for everyone. More specifically, the Murray argues that students who went to school should have learned the core knowledge they will learn in the college. He writes, “ K-8 are the right years to teach the core knowledge, and the effort should get off to a running start in elementary school” (236). In this passage, Murray is suggesting that start teaching the core knowledge in elementary school until high school is better than to spend money and more time to the college. It is not important to go to college.
Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
However, it is still an issue for students to cough up that money. The idea of making community college free to any student in America has been a dream for low income students for a while. President Obama’s desire to make the tuition of community college to everyone in the nation would only make it difficult for students to get a free education, limit them to essential resources, and discourage students from applying to four year universities. Granting free community college tuition to incoming freshmen will draw “more students to already crowded community colleges”. Along with the overcrowded campuses, a very long waiting list will soon form making it just as competitive to get into a four year university.
The symbolic is grades from the selected students to get do the early college program. The grades are base off how smart the student is. The early program is a symbolic because it holds value when a college student tells someone they in college they being to look at the student different or smarter from the rest of the society. Students with access to early college experiences are more successful in their chosen 4-year institution because they would already know the positives and negatives about school or what to look for in a 4-year university. The independent variable of the being an early college student is getting association degree and diploma at the same time.
A rising issue in today’s society is deciding whether or not college is worth the cost. There is an extreme amount of pressure that is forced upon high school students by parents, teachers, and peers to further their education and attend college. However, there is research that challenges the thought that college is the best possible path for a person to take. College may be a great investment for some people, but it is not meant for everyone. This is supported by the arguments that colleges are expensive, jobs do not always require a college degree, and students are forced to choose a lifestyle before being exposed to the real world.

You come out feeling confident.
Postsecondary Education Postsecondary services are based upon eligibility under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as amended in 2008 (Public Law 110-335). This law focuses on providing reasonable accommodations to ensure equal access to learning and work. Families and youth need to establish eligibility for accommodations, and develop relationships with adult service providers(local career–tech centers, Vocational Rehabilitation and offices at local college. In order to receive supports and accommodation a young person with disabilities in postsecondary must choose to self-identify and talk about their disability and work as well as find supports that are the best fit for themselves (Peterson et al, 2013: U.S. Department of Education,
Meanwhile, President Obama outlined a series of bold proposals that will increase access to high-quality education. Among them were initiatives to make quality early education accessible to every child, to tame the spiraling cost of college, and redesign the country’s high schools to meet the needs of the real
As the expectations for children coming into kindergarten rise, so should a child’s preparation for the concepts that they will be expected to know. More and more parents are making the decision to enroll their children into preschool to help prepare them for kindergarten, and more and more of these students are succeeding in their early school years. Infact, 61% of parents say that their children are enrolled in preschool, which has risen by 6% in just one year! Kids that do not get the opportunity for pre-kindergarten classes are not getting the chance to succeed at their full potential. Studies show that kids that do not attend pre-K are 60% more likely not to attend college and 70% more likely to get arrested.
Free Public College Education Welcome to free college! When a person thinks of going to college, they think of their financial needs, however that might not be a dilemma for them anymore. Cities in the United States are thinking of creating colleges that offer free public college education. This opportunity is a positive impact on people who want to further their education, although this opportunity has a negative impact on aspiring students. Free public college education should not be offered in cities in the United States because students’ success will decrease, the competition for jobs will increase, and most importantly taxpayers will have to pay more to support these schools.
