1965: Project Head Start Children tend to begin their education journeys at varying ages. While some children go to day care early on, some kids don’t begin that type of immersive experience until preschool or even kindergarten. A large contributor to this varying start to education is the financial state of families. In 1965, a program entitled Project Head Start was introduced in the United States. This program is designed for preschool level, low-income children to be introduced into the classroom early in the summer. Throughout the years, the Head Start Program has seen many improvements and evolvements. Originally, the program started off as a simple eight-week program focusing on helping families improve their impoverished lives. The program provides children with the opportunity “to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and educational needs” (Head Start History | The Administration for Children and Families, n.d.). Shortly after launching the program, the administration altered the 8-week program to expand upon both all day and year-round programs.
