They didn't have much technology because they didn't have many people to work on it. They always got sick from the dust and stuff because it wasn't good for their health. Burns, Sydney BPQ #2- I see areas of the world, such as Bantu Africa and North America, that didn't generate "civilizations" as different, but certainly not as "backward." Many would consider the Roman Empire an example of an amazing civilization, and although it did have many achievements, Roman society had many undesirable aspects, such as its large scale slavery that "had some 2 to 3 million slaves" (page 231). Bantu Africa did not have slavery, and even "developed gender systems that were markedly less patriarchal than those of established urban-based civilization" (pg 284). Bantu Africa and other similar societies did not lack religion, art, and many other important aspects of culture.
The Redman-Childe list was created to describe a civilization and what is needed to be considered a civilization. The five things a civilization must have in order for it to be considered a civilization through Redman-Childe standards are a large urban center with high population density, concentration of surpluses, a class structured society, full time specialization of labor, and a state level of organization. Although there may be reasons why it is biased, this list of characteristics seems to fit well with Mauryan Empire of India, as it includes all the points on the list. When you apply the Redman-Childe list to the Mauryan Empire in India, under Chandragupta, you can see that it possesses every characteristic it needs to be considered a civilization. India, at nearly every point in its history, has had one of the highest population densities in the world, especially in its largest cities (@).
Drinking while Driving Brad Bulla article “What are the Chances your Child will Ride in the Car with a Drinking Driver” explains how his son, Jedidiah, died. He tells his story of how his son died when Jedidiah went into a car with a friend of his that had been drinking while driving. Jedidiah had many aspirations of what he envisioned himself as after his final year of high school, but he could not reach his aspirations because of the poor decision that he made; his decision of riding with a driver who had been drunk. Jedidiah wanted the driver to quit drinking but the driver did not stop drinking, so Jedidiah took over the car which ended up killing him while the driver that drunk had survived. Brad Bulla incorporates different studies and statistics

Egypt, Mesopotamia, Shang/Zhou dynasties/China, and the Indus Valley are all different ancient river valley civilizations. All have different aspects of civilizations. Some aspects of civilization include technology, writing/language, specialized jobs, government, etc. These decisions were made based on the climate and biome the civilization was located in. These things needed to be taken into account because certain aspects of civilization were not suitable for every civilization.
The Empires Throughout history, there has been a wide discovery amongst the early age empires. Most discoveries found before our common era has made such a huge impact on the technology and tools we have today. Though we have improved on most innovations, our ancestors still established our cultivations. Ancient Greek culture is majorly influential in Western culture. Major works of literature, art, and political structure from ancient Greece remain relevant to modern Western society. However one can contrast these two societies by observing and valuing the art of ancient Greece. One can differentiate ancient Greek culture and modern Western culture by analyzing the treatment of religious figures, attitude towards emotion, and reaction towards nudity in each society. Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt were two early human civilizations that lived during the bronze age in harsh desert environments located not far from each other. Both civilizations were built around rivers that they depended on for survival. There is evidence that these rivers had great influence on both the societies politics and culture. Egypt was built around the very strong and reliable Nile River. Ancient Mesopotamia was established in the fertile crescent between the less reliable Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.
