I chose to watch “Easy A”, because I am actually a huge fan of Emma Stone and I have seen bits and pieces of this movie when it first came out but never the whole thing so I thought this would be a perfect excuse to finish watching it and not be judged for watching a “chick flick”. This movie is about a quirky, nerdy and rather unnoticed school student named Olive, played by Emma Stone, who was telling her best friend about a weekend she had, which was rather boring, but she made up a little white lie about losing her virginity. Her friend jumped to conclusions and things quickly spiraled out of control. This keeps going on and word travels through the high school like wild fire and she is portrayed as a hussy, when in reality she is not whatsoever. This movie directly addresses slut shaming, homosexual bullying, and the sexual double standard. Slut shaming has increasingly become a problem in our society today, I believe this movie did a phenomenal job at addressing it and making the point that just because you hear something about someone doesn’t mean it is true nor does it mean you should judge them for it. The sexual double standard is basically that it is encouraged for guys to have sex with as many girls as possible and that if girls have sex with a lot of guys they are looked at as sluts. A perfect example of this, and how gender is portrayed in the movie, is right after Olive and Brandon have “sex” at the party, he walks out of the room and is greeted with high fives from all the guys.
