Eat, Pray and Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Eat Pray and Love is a really good book written by Elizabeth Gilbert. Years after the book was published the movie was made. The movie and the book have some similarities and some differences. They basically have the same story with events rearranged differently and events cut and added. This happens because a movie has to tell the entire story in a certain period of time, in this case 145 minutes. So a lot of small details from the book have to be cut. Also the movie has to rearrange the events in the book in a way that it is interesting for the spectator to watch. Sometimes books jump in time and use different literary methods that have to be changed when adapted to movies because they can slow or interrupt the rhythm of the movie.

Both transmit the overall story and let the spectator with the same feeling. For example, in both it is clear that the divorce was a pretty shocking event in Elizabeth life. It was an event that triggers her decision for a change. She feels like she can´t deal with her life anymore and has to look for an escape. Also, in both is clearly shown Elizabeth´s battle against loneliness and depression. This is a main factor and obstacle that doesn´t permit her to move on with her life. She fights to break it down in order to achieve the happiness and inner peace that she wants to reach. Finally, another event that was both present in the book as in the movie is when she meets Richard from Texas. Clearly this man changes her. He teaches a lot of important things and basically teaches her to let thing in the pass and move on. He teaches her how to forgive herself in order to be able to make up with the rest of the world. It is a really important character in both the movie and the book. Like these examples, most of the overall ideas of the book are included in both the movie and the
