In a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge goes through a journey of self-awareness. Shaped by an unfortunate childhood, he is an archetypical abrasive and narrow-minded man until he is visited by the spirit of his business partner Jacob Marley and the three spirits of Christmas.
As a child Scrooge was neglected. His father disregarded him and he had few friends. This resulted in him spending many Christmas’s alone and developing depression. After he immersed himself in money, his only passion, to avoid his past Ebenezer was deserted by his sweetheart. Consequently, these events turned Scrooge against Christmas, love, and others.
