I believe that the definition of economic freedom is the ability to as a consumer have the right to make decisions and choices which will help one progress and reflect on their values. Hence, by having the economic freedom, it gives me as a consumer a sense of power because I am able to make my own decisions regarding what products in the market will benefit me. For example, economic freedom gives me the right to in a market purchase what I desire in order, to satisfy my wants and needs. I am able to have the options of purchasing from a variety of products without the government intervening and pursuing me to purchase a specific

In addition, economic freedom ensures to an extent where the market is influenced by the consumer demands and choices which make up the supply and demand trends that we view in a capitalist economy. Thus, a capitalist economy is where individuals purchase certain products that indicate the preference and demand for the public. Therefore, economic freedom in a free market, entrepreneurs and for a business would mean that there are no barriers in trade such as, the import and export, and also that customers would not be obliged to pay taxes on their purchases however, for some conditions that may be applied. As a result, just because economic freedom gives an individual the right to do whatever they desire, in a free market economy, economic freedom overall does not guarantee or result an individual to have an effective quality of life. For example, there can be certain situations where there can be economic disparity which is the difference or gap between the rich and the poor and this division can have a negative impact on those individuals who are less wealthier, because they can become even more poor whereas the richer class can become even more wealthy. Thus, in order, to avoid this disparity, …show more content…
Moreover, Canada regulates as a mixed economy, where it gives its citizens the freedom to exercise their economic freedom without having the government intervene and interfere in there transactions.
Conclusively, in the reading called “life is a Smorgasbord”, Leif Utne he appreciates Sweden 's way of life and attitude on an individuals choices and freedom, the right to express one’s individuality, which is not tied to their wallet. Leif Utne admires the communitarian ethics which is the basis of Sweden’s political system. For example, some policies that are strongly held in place are free university

Freedom is inherently correlated with economics, which is why Marx believes
In fact, for each value of these values at a price to be paid: self-reliance, competition, and hard work. In order to individual freedom it has to be self-reliance, and for equality of opportunities
This insures both fairness and structure to what is
Freidman believed economic freedom to be an essential need in securing political freedom. Any manipulation on a person’s economic freedom such as a tax for social security takes away from a person’s total freedom. To provide total freedom to the people coercion must not exist (Friedman, 1975). It is economic power that can balance political power. When the market is left alone under the invisible hand it balances out both what the seller and consumer desire.
Liberty was an idea that America was founded upon. When the Constitution was being written, Benjamin Franklin gave a speech explaining why the delegates should sign the Constitution. Franklin admitted to the delegates that the document was not written to the best of its ability, and how he himself had doubts involving some parts. Overall, Franklin believed that this document would be something to protect the liberties of the people and would secure the people 's rights. Government preserves the liberty of citizens by their equality which leads to socialism.
Chapter 11 1. Fiscal policy can be described as the use of government purchases, taxes, transfer payments, and government borrowing with an objective of influencing economy-wide variables such as the employment rates, the economic growth, and the rates of inflation (McEachern, 2015). 1. When all other factors are held constant, a decrease in government purchases will lead to an increase in the real GDP demanded 2. An increase in net taxes, holding other factors constant, will lead to an increase in the real GDP demanded.
Today, life can be unfair for those people who seek to be free from people who have big power over them. According to Naomi Wolf the author of “Freedom is Intended as a Challenge,” people can get the freedom they want, if they will learn how to extend happiness. In her article she takes Thomas Jefferson declaration and identifies three main points that make many people believe that freedom is
True freedom is commonly defined as absolute choice; whether it is in thought, actions or speech, freedom is an individual’s ability to take control of their lives and enables the human experience. Civilization views freedom as an ideal, yet the means of achieving it and whether or not freedom is truly achieved remains ambiguous. There are often individuals in civilized society who struggle and believe themselves to be free after a hard earned victory against oppression. Yet, the implications of maintaining a civilized social structure upon freedom is often overlooked. Many individuals view themselves as free from a subjective standpoint, although true freedom has an absolute meaning.
Freedom is more simply explained. It can be defined as one 's ability to dictate one 's own actions. In the book, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, individual freedom has been sacrificed the purpose of a supposedly secure and happy society. The world is controlled by an all-powerful state which is dominated by the study and practice of selective breeding.
America prides itself on being one of the most effective democratically governed counties. The idea of the American dream is that all people have equivalent political freedoms and a responsive government. However the effectiveness of social equality is being threatened by increasing inequality in the United States. Economic inequality in the US has expanded drastically. The wealth gap has had drastic changes over the past 35 years.
More than three billion people, nearly half of the world’s population, has an income of less than $2.50 a day. In addition, more than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty their income is $1.25 a day. Additionally, this mind-blowing statistic stress the fact that consumer behavior may be the main reason behind poverty. The first use of consumerism term is in 1944 mutual movement in the USA in 1930s.
This chapter has been divided into five segments by Cavanaugh that consists out of “when is a market free?’ , ‘Augustine on freedom and desire”, “libido dominandi”, “judging when a market is free” and “conclusion”. It touches on the concept of human liberty that is found in the theoretical model of the free market. Cavanaugh gives us an understanding about the free market economics of economist Milton Friedman and Catholic writer Michael Novak. Goods and objects are endowed with subjective value and the free market does not differentiate good or bad desires, nor does it inherently promote virtuous action or good stewardship because it is inherently value neutral.
The English Oxford dictionary defines freedom as “The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants.” This definition is partially true while these are the qualities of freedom, we can only have these rights as long as we don’t interfere with another's freedom. So, what isn’t freedom? A quote from a journalist of the Daily Beast, P.J. O’Rourke, answers this pretty well.
Children’s freedom involve, going place’s, getting things they want, and eating a certain kind of food they want without being judge . Adult’s freedom involve, living wherever they want, buying whatever they want, and working wherever they want. What does freedom mean to me? It means I get to do what I want without being judged. I’m free to live where I want, and eat what I want.
