Fear culminates when we lack an answer, and in search of an answer, we tend to find conclusions that hinder the truth. The case can be traced from everyday life to even hauntings in the paranormal. For the time being, there were people who could provide the ‘answers’ to unexplainable paranormal activity. Ed and Lorraine Warren are a demonologist and clairvoyant duo, known for solving cases behind haunted objects, homes, and demonic possessions. They are the inspiration for The Conjuring movie series produced by Warner Bros. and are known as the investigators behind the infamous Annabelle doll, Amityville Horror, and the Haunting in Connecticut (Case). Demonology was known to not be a secure source of income; yet many demonologists would provide their services with zero compensation. Demonologists provided their services for free to avoid scam claims, but they also believed their investigations impacted research (Savoie). However, even paranormal investigators need to make a living. In the case of the Warrens, they were able to find compensation elsewhere. The Warrens were known for not charging fees for their investigations, but the opposite can be said for events, such as a college lecture. As reported by Westchester Community College in 2013, Lorraine Warren requested payment for her guest lecture, in which her compensation would come from student’s activity fees – including students who did not participate in the lecture. While many students were upset that their fees were going to a small lecture, skeptics used the opportunity to accuse the Warrens of being greedy (Genzlinger). This claim made against the Warrens continues to impact their image to the public, as it can be agreed upon by both sides that while the Warrens should have done the lecture for free, they also can be argued to require funds for a standard of living. However, with enough media reports from their investigations, the fact that they had required compensation for their presence goes against their original guidelines when they first started their business, allowing the public to view the Warrens public goals
