Major settings:
The Five People You Meet in Heaven takes place in Heaven and Earth. In the book, it flashes back to certain points in Eddie’s life. Among the Ruby Pier is the other four places: the battlegrounds on which he fought in the war, mountains, various wedding receptions a river.
4. Plot outline:
The Five People You Meet in Heaven tells the story of Eddie who works at Ruby Pier and on his 83rd birthday he dies saving a little girl from a falling cart. When Eddie dies, he meets five people in heaven: The Blueman, The Captain, Ruby, Marguerite, and Tala. These five people teach him about how every life has a purpose and Eddie finally understands the significance of his own life. Finally, Eddie finds peace and finally learn the secret of heaven: “Each affects the other and the other affects the next, and the world is full of stories, but the stories are all one.”
