Most of the locals even undermine the historic value of the park, in which visitors use the park for special occasions. Eden Gardens State Park hosts a Christmas event that draws families together every year as the Wesley Mansion is “beautifully decorated for the holiday season.” Eden Gardens State Park delightfully includes as much history as possible, including “Civil War reenactors” during a special Christmas event to inform visitors of the many rooms. Looking back at the Wesley House after Maxon donated it to the state, the gardens were the site of a “horror movie, ‘Frogs,’ [that] was filmed on the grounds,” in 1972. The films of the evening include the movie filmed at the garden, but also movies that “were filmed in Florida [such as] ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon.’” These vintage films represent the earlier generations of the Panhandle, and the films provide current generations with a glance at the past. Presently, the gardens’ magnificent glory is the site many individuals choose for a wedding. With one of the Wesley family members beginning the tradition in the 1930’s, many tourists, beach-goers, and locals choose Eden as the place to have their best day. One of the largest oak trees on the property appropriately named the “‘wedding tree,’ a Virginia Live Oak, [that] is more than 600 years old,” is the spot many couples choose to recite their vows. Additionally, Eden Gardens promotes education with organizations such as the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance and Northwest Florida State College’s AmeriCorps program. These community organizations established an event that taught students about local aquatic wildlife. The students were taught about “the impact of pollution and how to measure water's salinity,”, and through this learned the value of maintaining a safe environment for all
