Edgar Allen Poe was an American author who was known for his horror stories, detective dramas, and poetry. Among them were: The Raven, The Tell-Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum and Annabel Lee. Many movies have been made from his books and stories. You would think that he would have been happy and famous, but that is not the case. Poe had a long and horrible past, filled with death, sorrow, and lies. Still, he became one of Americas greatest and most successful authors. We’re not here, however, to talk of his dark and sorrowful past, or to talk about his many successes as an author and editor. Instead, we need to focus on the strange events regarding his death. Since it was on an election day, some said he was dressed as different people to commit voter fraud – a practice that was used a lot in those days. These “frauds” were usually paid with free alcoholic drinks. Since Poe was in strange clothing and couldn’t remember where his luggage was or why he was in strange clothing, people thought he was simply drunk. Again, since alcohol has been ruled out by the medical field, I believe that a concussion from a severe beating caused his stupor and eventually his death. In fact, he was missing for 5 days. The belief that he was drunk and committing voter fraud for alcohol doesn’t explain the other 4 days he was missing. Someone experiencing a severe concussion or brain trauma would appear to be incoherent and forgetful. So, let’s go back to the brothers who didn’t like Poe and their sister being together. They could have followed him, and then when the opportunity was right, they could have attacked him. They might have only wanted to scare him or threaten him about marrying their sister, but things may have gotten out of hand. To me, this seems to be the best scenario for his death. Again, because of his popularity and how it would have devastated their sister, it would be hard for the brothers to admit to the crime of killing a famous American
