Edgar Allan Poe’s Mysterious Life “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” stated Edgar Allan Poe. Poe's life was nothing less of a horrible dream within a dream. This certainly affects the way that his writing turned out. After taking a look at the life and work of Edgar Allan Poe, it is apparent that this writer deserves recognition as a profound American author. Poe’s difficult childhood led to his dark and mysterious writing style. According to Poets.org “Poe’s father and mother, both professional actors, died before the poet was three years old.” After his parents died his siblings and him were separated among different families. Tougher times in his life made him turn to poetry and began his new destiny in life. “After less than one year of school, however, he was forced to leave the university when Allan refused to pay Poe’s gambling debts” (Poets.org). In fact death seemed to become a menace to Poe. Most of Poe's family members passed away before him, leaving him in a state of depression (Edgar Allan Poe Museum).
