I am here today to prove Mr. Poe's innocence and I hope to show you, the jury, that Mr. Poe is being wrongly convicted. I have found a series of evidence that proves that Mr. Poe is insane and is not capable of knowing what he is doing is wrong. He does not think like we do. He hears things that we don't hear. He is an insane person that needs to be put into Mental Hospital. Instead, of being thrown into prison or having the death penalty. He needs help and he could be given the help he needs at a Mental Hospital. Why sentence him to prison or to death when he could become better.

Mr. Poe stated “Meantime the hellish tattoo of the heart increased. It grew quicker and quicker, and louder and louder every instant.” Clearly we can't hear a heartbeat beating unless we lay our head on the person's chest or we could use the proper medical tool to hear someone's heart beat. Poe is the following “Oh God! What could I do? I roamed-I raved- I swore! I swung the chair upon which I had been sitting, and grated it upon the boards, but the noise arose over all and continually increased.” He let his thoughts over throw his mind and wasn’t thinking about what he was doing. He wasn’t thinking he was just doing and that's not how it is suppose to go. Your suppose to think about what you're going to do before you do it so you know the consequences of your actions. So, you can say that Poe at the time didn’t have any control over his actions. I am not giving him an excuse for murder. I’m just trying to say that he wasn’t aware of what he was doing and doesn’t completely understand what he did. Mr. Poe claims that he killed the old man because, of his unusual mind. Now does that sound sane to you, the jury, because, no sane person would even attempt to kill someone. That would mean that Mr. Poe is not sane and is very much
