Edgar Allan Poe once said, “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.” He is and was a very famous poet from the time he started writing to the time he died. He was more than a poet, he was one of the best critics of all time. Poe was a very interesting person from his lifestyles to his writing. Though Poe faced problems after he broke ties with the Allan family, his time to shine came when he won the award that started it all, the MS. Found in a Bottle award. (Edgar Allan Poe Biography) Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1807 in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents were John and France Allan. (Bittner) Poe was the son of actors, so he never really knew his parents. His father left Poe and his mother early in his life. After that, when Poe was three years old his mother passed away. Following the death of his mother, he was separated from his siblings. Poe went to live with John and Frances Allan. John Allan was a successful tobacco merchant that lived with his wife in Richmond, Virginia. Later on in Poe’s life he was perusing two life goals: he wrote and published his first book and joined the army around the same time. Poe married Virginia in 1836 when she was only thirteen years old. The couple soon moved to Richmond with Poe’s mother-in-law/aunt, where he got a job at the Southern Literary Messenger journal. However, by 1837 he lost his job due to his excessive drinking, even though he regularly produced for the journal. Even after all the work that Poe had done for the magazine, including 83 reviews, 6 poems, 4 essays, 3 short stories, and even his book the Politian, he was still deprived his job. This rejection of such accomplishments was extremely disturbing and upsetting to Poe, and caused his state of mind to change from then on. (Edgar Allan Poe
