In my opinion I chose the poet Edgar Allan Poe even though he is not the worst poet because he is one of the famous poets. I just dislike him for the way of the darkness being expressed in the poems. Of course he can not be the worst poet even in my opinion because Edgar Allan Poe was the most influential American author of the 19th century. I don’t mean to offend Poe. Don’t get me wrong I also love “The raven” as much as anyone else does. Where the poem “The raven” is a classic about a man sitting all alone in his study mourning the loss of his love Lenore, then when he is visited by a large black raven that responds to his uncertainty by stating the famous saying in the poem “Nevermore”. With that one word a lot is being understood about …show more content…

The thing is, while Poe had a real talent for meter and rhyme, and can’t forget his interesting and brilliant imagination… He could sometimes be pretty spooky. I can say Poe worried a pretty big deal about what happens to your body and soul after you die, there is evidence from the great number of his stories telling about being buried alive, or of corpses coming back to life, etc. Like the part from “The Raven” where he states ‘and my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor shall be lifted’; Which with this saying from the poem twistes everything from a talking raven on that dark night, then we end up with a man descending into his personal own hell. Sometimes he’s just downright emo. But that’s him, doing what he does best: setting a spooky, supernatural tone in his writing. Poe is best known for his fiction works to be Gothic, a genre he followed to satisfy the public taste in his writing. Maybe I’m criticizing him very negatively without thinking and understanding why he wrote what he wrote. Even though he was mostly recognized as a literary critic and having me criticize him now on my dislike of his darkness in his writing is somewhat …show more content…

I believe Poe was haunted by his past as an orphan and also went through a life all alone which led him to the alcohol abuse, madness, and to his self-destruction. Even though the life of Edgar Allan Poe wasn’t great; But, because of that life he was a writer, editor, literary critic, essayist, invented the detective, invented science fiction, and because of all this he was Widely influential in Europe. Through each author or poet you can understand probably why they wrote what they wrote, mostly through feelings that occurred to them and through the writing they expressed it freely and maybe careless. In this case with all understanding Poe was that dark, gothic, etc writer because of the kind of life he had been living. It might seem like I am a fan of Poe but, let me compare him to another poet like Shakespeare which to my believe I think is better even though both of them are the most famous poets of time. Poe and Shakespeare are alike in many ways. They both loved to write and both made their fortune in it. Both had pretty rocky lives yet they still managed to come up with the pieces of work that we know of today and still
