Edgar Allan Poe was a famous writer of his time, whose works are still being read all over the world today. Poe was born on January 19, 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts (“Edgar Allan Poe” 1). Although he had a short life, he made every second count. Edgar Allan Poe was a famous American writer, who focused on Gothic fiction stories and poems. Edgar Allan Poe had a rough early life. When he was young, he became an orphan, and was separated from his brother and sister. A couple that lived in Richmond Virginia, John and Frances Allan, raised Poe until he was eighteen. One of Poe’s scariest tales he ever made was: The Tell-Tale Heart. This is known as “A poem that Poe must have written in a time of despair when he thought Virginia was dying (Reiff 33).” “Virginia was buried in the graveyard of the Dutch Reformed Church nearby. Often unable to sleep, Poe took solitary walks that ended at Virginia’s grave (Meltzer 126).” The Raven was about a man who lost his “Lenore” and all he has left to remind him about her is a crow that keeps replying “nevermore”.
