The main theme in “The Painted Door” by Sinclair Ross suggests that women, who are completely dependant on a male leader and living in isolation and loneliness, confined to a traditional gender role, will constantly be challenged by a feeling of incompleteness and dissatisfaction in life. Women, who are unable to stand on their own without a male force leading their decisions and direction, become increasingly weak, such that they feel lost and incomplete when left to their own devices. The protagonist in the short story, Ann, is terrified of being left alone with a storm approaching, knowing that there is a stable of animals outside and forced by the risks that severe weather may cause. She is completely lost without her husband to guide her, seen at how often she changes her mind about what tasks she can do, to keep her occupied, until her husband’s return. Sinclair Ross demonstrates this dependency, when Ann tries to keep John from visiting his father: “You said yourself we could expect a storm.

Holden describes the football game by telling us, “The game with Saxon Hall was supposed to be a very big deal around Pencey.

The speaker is unknown but they seem to have a curiosity about life while laying in bed late at night. The common theme the two novels share is people want to be included but are too scared to trust anyone to do it. There is a tragic tone in both books. "

In the poem Romance by Edgar Allen Poe, the speaker navigates through the hardships of adulthood. The meaning of romance changes as life runs its course. Edgar Allan Poe once said “Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary.” On September 28, 1849 Poe arrived in Baltimore but had disappeared and no one knew where he was for a couple of days. He was given money by John R. Thompson before his trip over to Baltimore from Richmond but when he was found sitting outside of Ryan’s Tavern, a saloon that at the time was also a polling place for the elections, he was found by Joseph Walker with no money on him and had seemed to be intoxicated and weak. Due to the fact that Poe was found outside of the saloon/polling center seemingly drunk and delirious, with no money, weak, and strange clothes, “cooping” can be viewed as the most plausible cause for his death.

One of the first apparent emotions the boy experiences with the death of his father is loneliness to make this section memorable. The boy expresses this sentiment when he stays with his father described as, “When he came back he knelt beside his father and held his cold hand and said his name over and over again,” (McCarthy 281). The definition of loneliness is, “sadness because one has no friends or company.”
“Love is something far more than desire for sexual intercourse; it is the principal means of escape from the loneliness which afflicts most men and women throughout the greater part of their lives”(Bertrand Russell). One of the most basic human needs is the need to be loved by someone and to love someone in return. In the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams uses a consistent theme of loneliness and peoples desperate need for human companionship in order to be happy as a driving force in the main characters lives. This theme develops gravely throughout the play for each of the main characters. Even though unchecked desire can and does lead to unhappiness, the desire to avoid loneliness drives the main characters into relationships

This article occurred in connection to two children documenting a claim against McDonald's for making them fat. Code switching is a switch in the way you speak or the language you speak, Sometimes codes switching is formal or in formal speech. Code switching is something you do around your friends, family, school, and work. It is something very important because it helps with every conversation you may have at school, home or work. Schools make this a requirement to code switch because it helps to improve your communication with others, which is good for a future job interview and speaking with law enforcements. I feel like school made this a requirement for everybody because it helps to know when to speak properly and when you’re talking to friends.
