Biography Of Edgar Allan Poe
1) Born in Boston, Massachusetts Poe’s parents died when he was only a young child. He was later raised as a foster child by his foster parents, John and Frances Allan. Poe started writing poetry at the time he was thirteen. In 1826, Poe enrolled at the University of Virginia and was excelling academically. He later fell into great debts due to his gambling problem and had to withdraw from the university. Then he joined the army. In 1827, Poe published his first book, Tamerlane and Other Poems. In 1836, Poe married his thirteen-year-old cousin, Virginia. On October 7, 1949, Poe mysteriously died in a hospital.

This poem shows love and affection for another person who Poe loves a lot. Turning Poe’s own experiences into a poem is very interesting. He used a variety of figurative languages. He showed his love for his wife by mentioning seraphs taking her away from him.

3) Figurative Languages:
Imagery-“A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling My beautiful Annabel Lee.” (This gives the reader a vivid image of the wind passing through the kingdom ready to strike Annabel.)
Allusion- “With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven Coveted her and me.” (The winged seraphs refers to the angels in heaven.) Euphemism- “So that her highborn kinsmen came And bore her away from me” (This sentence explains Annabel Lee’s death through pleasant phrases like “bore her away”.)
