Edgar Poe was born January 19, 1809. He faced a difficult childhood. Many of his family members died of tuberculosis, he never knew his father. He was split up from his siblings and put with a foster family whose last name was Allan. He took on the name Edgar Allan Poe. Edgar Allan Poe incorporated his own life into his stories and poems. Poe had a very rough life. We found this out by reading his stories and poems, that’s how we know so much about him. He dropped out of high school in 1827 because of his foster father, he joined the army and started writing poems. In 1831, Poe was kicked out of West Point, continued to write, but didn't make much money. In 1835, he won a writing contest “Manuscript found in a Bottle”.
