Research Paper
Edgar Allen Poe was an American Gothic writer, who in to the scene in the early 1800s. He comes from a period of famous writers, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathanial Hawthorne and Charles Dickinson. Authors in the brink of a new age called Transcendentalist, which destined to be exclusive group of thinkers that believed in escapism and innovation. Their vision focused on inner self, and American Ideology.
Poe was part of the new age of thinkers, but he separated himself from the political and ideologies of the writers of his time, and focused on the dark and unanswered questions of life. Poe’s theme can best be described as mysteries, his work gave him the image of disturbed and lonely man. As such, I believe his creativeness …show more content…

Poe’s attraction was “a more spiritual connection to Virginia rather than a physical one at this stage of their relationship.”(Womans in… par.7)
Poe’s relationship with Virginia wasn’t as romantic as he depicted in his poems, there relationship had many obstacles that couldn’t be fixed. One example of these issues is Poe’s financial problems, he was no longer being supported by his uncle. Having no stable income to take care of his wife and her mother put extreme pressure on Poe. Virginia’s age, was another issue that had to overcome. Poe’s fear of losing her brought on the sudden marriage of the 14 to him a 27 year old man. The age gap alone shows irresponsible choice Poe’s life, his fear of losing someone, motivated his choice in marrying the girl.
