Edgar Allan Poe, born January 19, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. Died October 7, 1849 in
Baltimore Maryland.
Poe was best known as a short story writer, poet and critic. He is famous for mystery and death and horror in his writings. Some of his most famous writings are, “The Murders in the Rue
Morgue”, which they say sparked modern detective stories. The story “Tales of Horror” is said to unnerve American fiction. “The Raven” is one of the best known poems of all time. Poe’s work seems to romanticize the occult and the satanic.
To those he loved he was a kind, gentle and devoted man but to the others he was a sharp mean and critical. He was very full of himself.

Poe attended the University of Virginia but had to leave due to lack of funds. He was fighting with Mr.Allen over money for his education so in 1827 he enlisted in the army under a different name. This is when his publishing career started to take off. Poe spent the next several years working for Journals and Periodicals. Gaining notoriety for his criticism.
In 1836 he married Virginia Clem, his thirteen year old cousin and he was twenty four at the time. Poe’s wife died two years after the success of the Ravens publication in January 1845.
Though Poe died before he could produce his own journal The Penn, that was in 1849 at the age of forty.
Poe was said to have many affairs and was preparing for his second marriage in september 1849. He was then discovered on october third in a state of semi-consciousness then he died four days later. He was never able to tell what had happened to him. Therefore Poe’s death is shrouded in mystery. They don't really know how he obtained those injuries or the real cause of how his death occurred.
