What Killed Edgar Allen Poe? Edgar Allen Poe was an American mystery writer, he lived a very short and depressing life. He was born on January 19, 1809 but his unfair life began after that. When Edgar was three years old, his dad left him and his mom died of tuberculosis.
Edgar began writing during the Romantic time period, and there were major influences during that time that inspired others to begin writing. Poe’s major influence was Lord Byron. It is said that he was the writer that influenced Poe to become the writer he was. At the time Poe was born and began writing the main focus was on individual perception and imagination. He was also influenced by other authors such as: Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Browning, and E. T. A. Hoffmann.
They have two different styles and two different ways of growing up. Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston in 1809. He was a foster child when his parents died in 1811 of tuberculosis. He wrote his first poem at the age of 15.Poe joined the U.S army shortly after he published his first book (Tamerlane and other poems) in 1827 Poe got himself kicked out of west point and he emerged as a writer in 1831.In December 1835, he joined a magazine and he published some of his books there.

Heroism can be seen during the Depression everywhere, it can be seen in children through the elderly. The African Americans during this time are going through hard work and inequality, but they still went through it, hoping they could make a change for future generations. The whites were also heroes by surviving through the Depression too. Being a hero does not mean a person wins, but they try for what that individual believes is the better situation.

Although we were introduced to Poe’s tragic life that served as our general knowledge while reading the article, the two surprising facts that I learned from the text was the fact that only seven people attended his funeral and that four days before his death Poe was found at a polling place on a voting day. The mood of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story was carefully crafted through use of the narrator who made the reader feel both on edge and dull. The story starts abruptly by giving no context to the reader, it starts with an unsettling phrase to which leaves the reader puzzled. The narrator shouts, “True --nervous-- very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?”(Poe). Throughout the story, the narrator continually attempts to prove himself normal to the reader. Even after describing his actions that society would categorize as insane, such as killing a person.
