There comes a time when one finds their true love. When that special someone is found, the world itself seems to get better, but love is a blessing and a curse. In “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allan Poe, Poe illustrates his undying love towards Annabel Lee, whom sadly is no longer with him. Poe begins his piece stating that this poem takes place a long time ago: “It was many and many a year ago,” (1). The poem itself is a reminder to Poe of his love towards Annabel Lee; that nothing on earth, heaven, or hell “can ever dissever [his] soul from the soul / Of the beautiful Annabel Lee” (32-33). The love that he received must have being incredibly because all they thought about was each other. Poe loved her with all his heart and she loved him with all of hers. Love can happen at any age. Poe signified that by writing: “I was a child and she was a child,” (7). Their love was a young but powerful. The love they had was so strong “…that the winged seraphs of heaven / Coveted [them]” (11-12). Poe blames the seraphs for the death of Annabel Lee. Seraphs are angelic creature mostly associated with light, ardor, and purity. The love that Poe and Lee had was greater than that of the seraphs; out shining the seraphs in sense. Poe used seraphs in his poem to portray that their love was greater that the angels. On lines 15 through 19 tells of how she was taken from him because of the seraphs. A wind from a cloud (the seraphs) chilled Lee while asleep were after “her highborn kinsman” (death) takes her from him and “...shut her up in a sepulcher”. Poe believed that his beautiful Annabel Lee was taken from him because of how envious the angels were of their love: “The angels, not half so happy in heaven, / Went envying her and me- / Yes! - that was the reason…” (21-23).
