He wrote this poem in 1849 and was widely believed to be about his beloved wife, Virginia Clemm, who died two years earlier. The poem is written in first person perspective and talks about a beautiful girl named Annabel Lee. The speaker talks about their love and supposedly lived "in a kingdom by the sea." However, their love is short lived when the angels, due to jealousy, kills Annabel Lee. The speaker is left heart-broken and he is constantly reminded of her.
