The poem “Annabel Lee” by Edgar Allen Poe is a prime example of American Romanticism. The poem incorporates a wide variety of Romanticism values. Throughout the poem Edgar Allen Poe expresses his love and feelings for his beautiful Annabel Lee. They have met when their both were children. He also thinks that their relationship is very special. Poe highlights that his love for Annabel Lee is “stronger by far than the love of those who were older…” (27-28). Poe is basically saying that his love for Annabel Lee is stronger than love. He describes how nothing can come between him and Annabel Lee. Death can not not even separate them. This connects to the Romantic value of emotion. The Romantic value emotion says, “Emotions are valued over reason.”
