“Annabel Lee,” By Edgar Allen Poe is a poem about a death of a beautiful woman. The narrator witness how the narrator and Annabel Lee got separated by her kinsmen. The narrator and Annabel Lee loved each other since they were little kids. Annabel Lee was gentle and determined in her love that may even complicate her love even a little bit. Annabel Lee was a maiden who had no other thought than to love the narrator or to be loved by the narrator. As Poe states in his poem, “And this maiden she lived with no other thought than to love or to be loved by me.” The theme of this poem is a death of a beautiful woman. Until he ends by offering the complete and awful image of a “sepulcher there by the sea.” Even though Annabel Lee has died, the narrator can see her “bright eyes,” an image of her soul and the spark of life that promises of a future meeting between the two lovers. The narrator blames everyone but himself for Annabel Lee’s death, pointing at the plans of angels with nature and the show of paternalism built in her “highborn kinsmen” who “came and bore her away from me.” After that he depends on her memories.
