In the story Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, the narrator shows a love/hate relationship with the old man and his vulture eye. The narrator has always loved the old man but hated his vulture eye. This hate is so strong that the narrator kills the old man because of this. Even with this, he still has a strong love of the old man. The narrator stated to the reader, “I love the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me an insult. For his gold, I had no desire” (381). This shows the narrator had no problem with the old man and the old man had ‘never wronged’ him.
