14.01.16 – 21.01.16 During this block I was given the opportunity to take floor book for the first time. As previously mentioned, I had difficulties communicating with some of the children in the nursery. I strongly believe my communication have come a long way since reflecting on them and this improvement was presented during floor book. I was able to quickly identify that the children had a mixture of abilities when it came to understanding and answering questions.
In the eighth grade, my friends and I joined a program called History Day, completely on a whim. We had no experience and we barely knew what the program was, but we were very excited to try something new. When we got started on our project, we decided to do a performance on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire of 1911. Out of the five of us, not one person had done a historical performance before, and so with no experience we began our research. As we learned everything there was to learn about this event, we became more and more passionate about the topic.
As I volunteered and continued to read, I began to see the kids I played with differently. I didn’t just see them for their disease or complications, but I saw their heart, and the joy they felt just by doing simple things. I started to imagine their families and wondered what they might be going through, having a child live in a hospital. I kept remembering how confused and misled the Lacks’ family was with the health care system, and even though, I’m not a doctor, I hoped the best for the patient’s well-being and their
Over the summer I attended the four day Congress of Future Medical Leaders and it made me realize what I dreamed to become and achieve in life Before the school year of 2017 ended I came home and found a large black envelope on the entrance table, in gold lettering it read “Harvard”. I quickly rushed over to my mom and started frantically waving the sealed envelope in her face, she started yelling for me to open it. On the back was a thick wax seal with the Harvard emblem, I don 't think I ever opened something as carefully as I did then. Inside, there was a thick stack of papers, mom was eager to read them
This semester I am finally taking my core classes. So far, it has been both exciting and intimidating. It has been exciting because I am finally learning about something that I am passionate about. It has been intimidating because it is the field in which I will be working. As of right now the class that I am enjoying the most is human services methods.
I was fortunate to be placed in Ms. Gohil’s classroom because her classroom was dedicated to students with special needs. This allowed me to experience first hand what an actual special education teacher does during a typical class day. I also was able to see paraprofessional work with the students on constant bases, not like my previous experience where the paraprofessional would only visit the child for approximately 20 - 30 mins per class period. What I also like was that I witnessed various behavioral changes from students and was able to see in real time how the teacher and paraprofessional handled these behaviors. At first, I did not understand some of the techniques that were being used, but then I would ask Ms. Gohil questions and
I was told early into the semester by my professor Rogerio Zapata that we needed to write a six page essay on a regular meeting or a school board meeting. In fact in our first exam some of the questions were about the paper we needed to write. In addition Professor Zapata remained us every class to attend a meeting. As a high school student the first thing I did was to going ask my principle if she knew when the next school board meeting was going to be held. She give me great information and told me if I needed more about the meeting to go to the school website.
Truth lies within the trite phrase that ignorance is bliss. When one is unaware of a bad circumstance, she cannot fixate on the event and let it get in her way. Yet, this human longing for bliss and perfection has caused society to increase its unconsciousness in a way that is so artificial that the shortcomings of modern society were able to be accurately predicted by an intelligent man, Aldous Huxley, in 1932. While the society he described strived for bliss, it descended into ignorance, and, in contradistinction to Aristotle's Theory of Identity, only shallow happiness was ultimately found. Although Huxley's Brave New World depicts a veneer of happiness, the busy and detached lifestyles of its citizens are revealed to be inconsequential.
To maintain the continuous lab draws of the hospital, there needs to be two to three trained Phlebotomists on staff for the shift. On this day in particular, it was only myself and an untrained Phlebotomist, so I had to pick up all the slack of my new co-worker and double my speed. I was very stressed and having a horrible day altogether. I have loved being a Phlebotomist, but I have spent some of my worst and most stressful days being one as well. After this day I tried to learn to overlook some minor mistakes, because I Glodowski 3 know they are generally not the new persons’ intentions.
On November 9, Mead School District held the fifth school board meeting of this academic year. Running the meeting was Superintendent Tom Rockefeller, President Board Director Ron Farley, Vice President Board Director Denny Denholm, and Board Directors, Maureen O’Connor, Robert Olson, and Carmen Green. All of the directors were recently re-elected, excluding Maureen O’Connor who isn’t up for re-election until next year. Due to this, there was an almost celebratory feel to the meeting, with many of the Directors, especially Vice-President Denholm, making jokes and being conversational with the small audience. At the meeting, I was the only person attending that was not giving a presentation to the board.
For my educational experience, i attended a school board meeting on April 26th at the District center. This was my first school board meeting, so i wasn 't sure what to expect, but i wasn 't expecting that set up. I was expecting more parental and community involvement, those stereotypical parents who criticizes everything about the system. Instead i found myself with adults who looked like they were doing the same amount of observing as me. There was 8 board members sitting together in a closed square flip top, i didn 't particularly like this because a few members had there back faced to the guests and it felt like guests/other presenters weren 't as important or acknowledged really.
First, there was a woman and her husband who had just had a baby. They explained that they did not have a very good support system and felt they did not have everything they needed for the baby. My Field instructor showed me a location in the hospital in which they keep things such as donated baby clothing, diapers, wipes, and an assortment of different vouchers. We gave them all of these necessities to start them out as well as $25 worth of once upon a child bucks (a baby store in Elizabethtown). Second, there was a patient who came in for a same day transfusion but did not have any transportation to get back to her home.
I also like how the both of us came up with questions that were not pre made and that we genuinely wanted to help our family. We came in thinking and preparing for the family need additional services and once they did not present that we rolled with what we had. This role play felt real and made me feel more comfortable then the last one. The activity we gave the young boy was great but I do believe that we could have come up with better thought provoking questions for him to answer when he returned to the session. I think with more time we could have dig deeper to the root of the young boy issues.
IX. Professional Reflection – added after lesson is taught Your reflection should include, but not be limited to, thoughtful answers to each of the following: 1.Were the instructional objectives met? How do I know the students learned what was intended? The instructional objectives of my reading lesson plan were met.
I cannot recall any other time I experienced so much joy and satisfaction. It was on the warmth of a spring day in March, 2015. After finishing the spring semester at high school, the school gives students a one-week holiday to relax or to go somewhere. A beach trip in the spring is always a good idea for us who live near the sea, but this time I was on the bus with my classmates heading to the airport. The school had organized a Habitat Trip to the Philippines, where my classmates and I decided to go to build houses.
